Opening of the exhibition Presence / Absence
We invite you to the opening of the exhibition Presence / Absence
Dec 18, 7 pm, at New Gallery of Visual Arts, Kralja Milutina 49, 1st floor
Open hours: Thu – Sat, 4-8 pm until Jan 18, 2022
The exhibition “Presence / Absence” was created as a dynamic artistic exchange between four visual artists from Serbia: Slobodanka Stupar, Anica Vucetic, Nina Todorovic and Dinka Pignon, and three visual artists from Greece: Annita Argyroiliopoulou, Lina Bebi and Leda Papaconstantinou. The exhibition has been taking shape since the beginning of 2021 through intensive collaboration and joint work.
Offering a broad ideological framework, “Presence / Absence” allowed for a wide range of topics and questions, that the artist were already engaged with in their practice, to be further explored. Whether directly or indirectly, this exhibition deals with the presence and absence of women in the history of art, addressing intimate questions of pain and loss and calling for articulation of an attitude towards the ongoing process of silencing the voices of the individual, thereby nullifying their presence.
At the same time, ”Presence / Absence” is a platform for discussing experiences that shape the understanding of the concepts of “presence” and “absence”. Through a selection of seventeen works, some of which were created especially for this exhibition, we are presented with different individual understandings of the topic, as well as with different modes of expression, such as sculpture, video, installation art and photography.
The exhibition is realized with the support of the RS Ministry of Culture and Information.
